Sport
Across both our locations you’ll find two world-class championship golf courses, a cricket oval, courts for tennis, squash, bowls and croquet, plus an outdoor running track and a swimming pool with one of the best views of Johannesburg. All in all, The Club’s facilities form the perfect backdrop for connecting with other members, making new friends, and keeping fit and healthy.
Cricket
Built in 1962, The Club’s cricket oval is nestled amid Auckland Park’s sweeping greenery and large oak trees. A unique characteristic is the inclusion of one of these trees on the field itself.
Croquet
Since being reintroduced as a sport at The Club in 1997, the croquet club has subsequently become one of South Africa’s strongest.
Gym
Whether you want to get back into shape and lose a few kilos, or simply maintain a healthy lifestyle, The Club offers two top-class Johannesburg gym facilities at no additional cost to members.
Mountain Bike Trail
For those who enjoy taking to two wheels, then the MTB Trail at Woodmead is perfect. A scenic route with spectacular views can be enjoyed by all riders ranging from rookies to advanced.
Running Track
If you enjoy walking or running, both our Auckland Park and Woodmead locations feature exercise tracks within their grounds that give you a safe outdoor alternative to pounding the treadmill.
Swimming
As a Club member, you have access to our beautifully maintained swimming pools at our Auckland Park and Woodmead locations, both of which are open all year round.
Squash
Squash was pioneered as a sport in South Africa by The Country Club Johannesburg, and remains a special club sport to this day.
Tennis
Tennis was by far the most popular sport at The Club when it was first formed. Although the ladies in long white dresses and gentlemen with wooden racquets may have now been replaced by more modern sights, the spirit of this traditional sport remains.
As a Club member you’ll have access to all sports facilities on most days, and your guests are very welcome on certain days too. Joining a particular sports club is easy – start by reading more on that particular sport, then consult the event calendar or contact the sports co-ordinator to find out more.
